Hello, Here’s the first image of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman!

COLLIDER
Tyler Hoechlin has had a good year. I say this mainly because he appeared in one of the best American films of the year thus far, Everybody Wants Some!!, directed with reverberating personal nuance by the incomparable Richard Linklater, and played one of the more quietly melancholic characters in a film filled with unique personalities. Of course, the other big get for the former Teen Wolf star is snagging the role of Superman and Clark Kent in the upcoming second season of Supergirl, a coveted role that he looks and sounds perfect for, at least from what I’ve seen.
This afternoon brought some confirmation of that fact when the first image of Hoechlin in the red cape and full costume appeared, standing next to Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist of Whiplash fame. Well, I guess it’s of Supergirl fame now, but you get my meaning. You can check out the full image right below and though he certainly looks to have the general handsomeness and physique that Superman and Clark Kent require, we won’t really know how well he fits the character until the first episode of Supergirl Season 2, which will also be the show’s first episode on the CW after its move from CBS. It’s one thing to get Superman’s look correct, which both Hoechlin and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Henry Cavill do. It’s an entirely different effort to be able to truly distinguish Kal-el from his alter ego, which is exactly what made Christopher Reeves‘ take on both characters so iconic.
I have high hopes for Hoechlin in the role, and from the few things he’s said about the role thus far, I am confident enough that he knows how to distinguish Kent, both physically and in delivery, from Superman. Regardless of how well Hoechlin handles both sides of the character, he’s already reinvigorated my interest in a show that I had given up on about nine episodes ago. Fingers crossed, everyone!
Supergirl Season 2 premieres on October 10th.

CINEMABLEND :
After numerous hazy and indirect appearances last season during Supergirl last season, Superman is fully debuting this fall on the Girl of Steel’s TV series. Tyler Hoechlin was cast as the Man of Steel last month, and since then, fans have been eagerly waiting to see the actor in the iconic red, yellow and blue duds. Now we finally have our first look at the Teen Wolf star in costume as Kal-El, next to Melissa Benoit’s Kara Zor-El.
Although Tyler Hoechlin and the Supergirl cast were present at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, there wasn’t a sneak peek of how this new version of Superman will look. Instead, DC Comics and The CW saved the first gaze for today, with Superman and Supergirl triumphantly posting over the ‘S’ shield and sunlight gleaming in the background. This costume, designed by Kiersten Ronning, looks quite familiar to what hardcore and casual fans are used to, from the red cape to the yellow background on his symbol. However, he’s traded in the red undies for a belt of the same color, which is consistent with how the character has looked since the New 52.
While the boots look a little more clunky than usual, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman costume looks faithful to what Kal-El, a.k.a. Clark Kent, has typically worn over his 78-year existence. Obviously Supergirl’s own costume was based off his, so it had to have that classic design rather than be something radically different. Although Tom Welling’s Clark Kent briefly suited up in the Smallville finale, the last time we saw a properly costumed Superman on live action television was in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Henry Cavill is currently playing the cinematic Man of Steel in the DC Extended Universe, but his suit looks more textured, while Hoechlin’s suit looks more streamlined.
Superman’s presence was definitely felt throughout Supergirl Season 1, but his actual appearances left a lot to be desired. Kal, a.k.a. Clark Kent, primarily communicated to Kara through instant messaging, and when he did show up, he was either far away, out of focus or lying in a coma on an operating table, with only his boots showing in front of the camera. For the show’s sophomore season, they’ve opted to finally give Kara’s Kryptonian cousin a proper introduction. Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman will appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl Season 2, but there’s been no word yet on if/when we can expect future appearances from him.

SLASHFILM :
In the first season of Supergirl, Superman was more an idea than an actual character. Oh, sure, Kara’s more famous cousin figures prominently in her backstory, and she and others talk about him all the time. And yes, he was even seen on the show on a few occasions. But it was always as a blur, or from a distance, or as a small child. It’s not until the new season that we’ll finally get to meet Supergirl‘s version of Superman for real. As previously reported, he’ll be played by Teen Wolf and Everybody Wants Some!! star Tyler Hoechlin — and today, we have our first look at him all suited up.
That’s enough Photoshop lens flare here to make J.J. Abrams roll his eyes, and Superman’s arms are rather awkwardly placed. But all that aside, Hoechlin seems to look the part. It’s interesting to note he’s going the Man of Steel route and ditching the red undies. Instead, he splits the difference with a dark red belt. The Superman and Supergirl costumes look like they come from the same universe, but don’t match exactly, which is another nice touch.

At a Comic-Con roundtable interview, producer Sarah Schechter gushed about seeing Hoechlin in that iconic uniform. “Tyler is amazing. I’ve seen him in the suit and it’s very cool,” she told us. “You see it and you’re like oh, Greg Berlanti and I went to a costume fitting the other day and we were a little speechless. It’s our costume designer who came up under Colleen [Atwood] but it’s working off of Colleen’s design for the Supergirl suit.”

Hoechlin is in the strange position of playing a small-screen version of Superman while a big-screen version is active. (Yes, I know how Batman v Superman ends, but c’mon, we already know he’s back for Justice League.) But maybe that could work to his advantage. Not all DC fans are enamored of the current movie Superman directed by Zack Snyder and played by Henry Cavill, with many complaining he’s too cold or too broody. Supergirl could probably win over a lot of people just by letting their Superman smile once in a while. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to unleash this megawatt grin?
Superman will drop by Central City in the first two episodes of Supergirl‘s second season, which kicks off October 10 at 8 PM on The CW.
