Hello, the news is now official. The CW announced that the Supergirl offshoot, headlined by Arrowverse vets Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, has been ordered to series for the 2020-21 TV season.

From Dc Comics:

For the first time since the conclusion of Smallville in 2011, the Man of Steel will anchor his own TV show…and this time, he’ll be suited up and ready for action.

The CW announced today that they’ve given a series order to Superman & Lois, a new ongoing series set in the network’s “Arrowverse” and featuring the Last Son of Krypton and his equally iconic wife and companion. Here’s what the official series description has to say about it:

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch have already appeared as these iconic characters in multiple episodes of The CW’s DC superhero series, including this season’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, which concludes tonight. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman & Lois is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (The Flash) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC.

As the description alludes to, Hoechlin and Tulloch aren’t new to their roles. Hoechlin made his first appearance as Kara’s famous cousin in season two of Supergirl, while Tulloch debuted as Lois in last season’s crossover event, “Elseworlds.” After that event’s conclusion, the pair chose to remain on Argo City, which had survived the destruction of Krypton, in order to have a child. Now, with the baby born, they returned to Earth to aid in the Crisis and in the process narrowly avoided death, as Argo City was destroyed in an antimatter wave.

While we don’t know how Crisis will resolve…yet, it’s good to know that comics’ most beloved superhero couple survives, and that Clark will once again don his iconic suit. Who the pair will work alongside (let’s not forget that James Olsen and Cat Grant have moved on) and battle against (could Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor be a part of the show as well?) remain to be seen, but rest assured, as any casting and character news breaks, you’ll read about it right here on DCComics.com.

For now, though, let us know on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram what you’re hoping to see. And just as important, will you be watching the conclusion of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” tonight? We hear there may be a few surprises…

TV Line:

As Arrow nears its end, the Arrowverse will at the very least hold steady at six programs, now that Superman & Lois has been officially ordered to series at The CW.

The CW announced on Tuesday that the Supergirl offshoot, headlined by Arrowverse vets Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, has been ordered to series for the 2020-21 TV season. As such, it will join the network’s superhero slate alongside the already renewed The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and recently inducted Black Lightning.

Still to be determined: Will the backdoor Arrow spinoff pilot episode, “Green Arrow and the Canaries” (airing Tuesday, Jan. 21), also be ordered to series…? Stay tuned!

Superman & Lois — which will still film its first episode this spring, ahead of the May Upfronts — follows “the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist” as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the pilot will be written and executive-produced by Todd Helbing (The Flash), Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns will also serve as EPs on the project from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Hoechlin originated the role of the Arrowverse’s Superman/Clark Kent in Supergirl‘s Season 2 premiere, while Tulloch, who made her debut as Lois in 2018’s “Elseworlds” crossover. Both are currently guest-starring in this TV season’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event, which resumes/concludes Tuesday night.

The CW has also ordered to series Walker, its reimagining of the long-running Walker, Texas Ranger, starring Supernatural vet Jared Padalecki;

EW:

Pilot pickup season has come early on The CW. The network just announced that it has ordered two pilot scripts directly to series, including Arrowverse spin-off Superman & Lois and the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot starring Jared Padalecki.

Both Superman & Lois (from Warner Bros. TV) and Walker (from CBS TV Studios) have not filmed their pilot episodes yet. The first episodes for both new series will be filmed this spring and additional pilot orders for the next TV season will be announced in the next few weeks.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as they reprise their Arrowverse roles of Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane, based on the DC Comics characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The series follows the married couple as they “deal with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.”

Hoechlin first appeared on Supergirl in the season 2 premiere, debuting his version of Superman. He has since popped up in three additional episodes of Supergirl, along with the most recent two Arrowverse crossover events: Elseworlds and Crisis on Infinite Earths. Tulloch made her Arrowverse debut in Elseworlds and returned in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Superman & Lois is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (The Flash) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.

Meanwhile, Walker ensures Padalecki stays on The CW after his long-running staple Supernatural ends this spring after 15 years. The reimagining of Walker, Texas Ranger, which originally aired from 1993 to 2001, stars Padalecki in the role originated by Chuck Norris: Cordell Walker, a member of the elite Texas Ranger Division.

Described as “a widower and father of two with his own moral code,” Cordell “returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home. He’ll attempt to reconnect with his children, navigate clashes with his family, and find unexpected common ground with his new partner (one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history), while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.” Written and executive produced by Anna Fricke (Being Human, Valor), Walker is also executive produced by Padalecki along with Dan Lin and Lindsay Liberatore.

These two new series joins the roster of 13 returning shows that have already been renewed for the 2020-2021 TV season, including remaining Arrowverse series The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and new addition Batwoman, plus Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies, Dynasty, All American, Charmed, Roswell, New Mexico, In the Dark, and new series Nancy Drew. Plus, a month ahead of its midseason premiere, Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene has received an order for 13 additional scripts.

Hello, It’s official, there will be a series centered on Superman and Lois. And of course with Tyler and Elizabeth Tulloch.

VIA TVLINE

The CW is looking to “supe” up its slate with a series about the iconic Superman and Lois Lane.

TVLine has learned that Superman & Lois, from Warner Bros. TV, is currently in development and it will follow “the world’s most famous Super Hero and comic books’ most famous journalist” as they “deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.”
Tyler Hoechlin, who originated the role of the Arrowverse’s Superman/Clark Kent on Supergirl, and Elizabeth Tulloch, who made her debut as Lois in last year’s “Elseworlds” crossover event, will reprise their roles for the prospective new series. (When last we saw the DC Comics super couple, Clark shared that Lois is pregnant, before they went to live off-world on Argo. But first, Clark crushed a lump of coal into a diamond, Superman III-style, and properly proposed to his baby mama. Hoechlin and Tulloch will both appear in this season’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” five-part crossover.)
Former Flash showrunner Todd Helbing will pen Superman & Lois and serve as an executive producer alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.

When TVLine spoke with Grimm alum Tulloch ahead of “Elseworlds,” she said such an offshoot “potentially” could come to fruition, adding: “I think it’ll depend on how [the crossover] is reviewed and a bunch of other external factors that nobody has really that much control over. I know Tyler and I would love to come back and work more together. We fortunately had great chemistry, which is not always a given.”

This Superman & Lois news comes weeks after it was announced that one of Arrow‘s 10 final-season episodes will serve as a backdoor pilot for a Green Arrow and the Canaries spinoff starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy Rodgers and Juliana Harkavy.

VIA HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will reprise their roles for the potential ‘Arrow-verse’ spinoff.
Look, up in the sky, it’s another Arrow-verse TV series in the works.
Superman & Lois, featuring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles as the title characters, is in development at The CW.
Produced by Greg Berlanti, former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing will pen the script and exec produce the potential series. The drama is described as revolving around the world’s most famous super hero and comics’ most famous journalist deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. (Helbing stepped down as showrunner on The Flash in March to focus on development.)
Helbing will exec produce alongside Berlanti and his Warner Bros. TV-based Greg Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter and DC’s Geoff Johns. The drama is based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Hoechlin was first cast as Superman back in 2016 and has appeared in multiple episodes of The CW’s Arrow-verse, including Supergirl and has participated in the franchise’s annual crossovers. Grimm grad Tulloch was cast in September 2018 and appeared in last year’s crossover.
This is the second Arrow-verse spinoff in the works for the 2020-21 TV season. The CW is also readying a female-focused Arrow spinoff starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy as the network is prepping for the next wave of its DC Comics franchise.
The Arrow-verse has become a network-defining brand for The CW, with The Flash ranking as its most-watched original series. The network is saying goodbye to the Arrow this season as it just launched Ruby Rose vehicle Batwoman (which last week earned an additional nine-episode order).
The development deal also arrives as The CW president Mark Pedowitz has been open about entering what he called the “next generation” of his DC shows. The younger-skewing network’s current roster includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning.
The decision to revisit Superman (and Lois) also comes nearly a decade after the former WB Network-turned-CW told Clark Kent’s origin story in Smallville, which ran for a decade.

VIA DEADLINE

The CW’s DC universe is eying another major expansion with Superman & Lois, a present-day drama based on the DC characters, starring Supergirl‘s Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the iconic couple. The hourlong project, now in development, hails from The Flash executive producer Todd Helbing, DC Universe architect Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV, where Helbing and Berlanti are under deals.
Written by Helbing, based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman & Lois revolves around the world’s most famous Super Hero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Former Flash showrunner Helbing executive produces with Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns via Berlanti Productions.
With several DC series reaching maturity and the show that launched the CW universe, Arrow, in its final season, the network is stepping up its DC development efforts with two high-profile projects. Superman & Lois joins an Arrow spinoff headlined by the show’s Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy reprising their roles. It is set up as a backdoor pilot that will air as episode from the current eighth and final season of Arrow.
Superman & Lois is being developed as a standalone pilot and will not be introduced as a planted spinoff on one of the existing DC series on the CW. It marks a new stage in the DC franchise evolution on the CW as it features one of the most iconic DC characters, Superman.
Hoechlin has been portraying Clark Kent/Superman on the CW’s Arrowverse series since 2016, primarily on Supergirl. Tulloch was cast as Lois Lane last year when she appeared alongside Hoechlin’s Man of Steel in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover. She has since appeared as Lois Lane on Supergirl, The Flash and Batwoman. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming big Arrowverse crossover event. Tulloch previously starred as the female lead for six seasons on NBC’s Grimm. Her recent feature credits include Chronic, opposite Tim Roth, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

WBTV had previously been working on a Superman prequel series, Metropolis, for DC Universe. The live-action series, from Gotham executive producers John Stephens and Danny Cannon, centers around Lois Lane and supervillain Lex Luthor.
